Hi there 👋
Welcome to the VOKKA newsletter by VOKKA Technologies, where we cover everything Handmade. From Handmade Fashion to Footwears, and everything in-between.
But first, it is useful to know our story. Where we are coming from. Why we exist.
How VOKKA came about: A Painful and Disappointing Experience
A lot of true innovations come from painful experiences. This is one such story of innovation and problem-solving.
Our Founder, Viktor VOKKA (not real name) is a fresh graduate from a top-tier Nigerian university. He and two of his friends are thinking about life paths, how to become successful, marriage, kids, etc. For success, to supplement career income, they considered trying to set up a Fashion business. Viktor, being the main character, was entrusted to seek out tailors that'd join the team and produce beautiful garments.
I'm sure Fashion business owners know how this tends to go. It can be discouraging and frustrating trying to setup a fashion business in Nigeria, talk less of operating one. The hustle. The bustle. Disappointments here and there. The search for competent and reliable tailors to join the fashion team is no joke. It is similar to the trending pop-the-balloon match making show; a thing of trial and error. A costly, resource-wasting trial and error approach to getting reliable tailors.
Viktor visited the well known EKO Market to get a tailor. The intention was to test him with one garment, and should he design and produce it well, we’d onboard him as a tailor. EKO market is a place bustling with tailors/designers, material/inventory, and accessories retailers around the vicinity. It seemed like the perfect place to get a competent and reliable tailor.

Laugh Out Loud (LOL)! You'd soon find out why. Some of you know already #IYKYK.
Viktor eventually gets a tailor. Tells him he has a wedding in two (2) weeks’ time that he wants to attend (10 business days), that he wants to sew an agbada for the wedding. The tailor assures him that it's no problem. Viktor, then, was a Lawyer working in a law firm in Obalende, not too far from the EKO market. He was a very busy person and didn't have the time to constantly check up on the tailor. Time passed, and the two weeks production timeline is almost up. Viktor is really anticipating. The friends he'd see at the wedding, he has not seen in a while since graduating. Normal you know, that Viktor wants to dazzle a bit. Show off his style and how well he's doing in Life.
His reputation is riding on this killer agbada. Well, truly, something would eventually die in him that day -- his trust of tailors.
Viktor was scheduled to collect the agbada on a Friday. He was to attend the wedding the following day, Saturday. On Thursday morning, he calls the tailor for a progress report. The tailor assures him that it's almost done, that he'd be so impressed by his work and detailing that Viktor would preach the gospel of his craftsmanship to his friends and bring him more customers.

"This Amaka is a strong one".
Anyways, Viktor closes work a bit early on Friday, going from Obalande (office) to EKO market (tailor workshop). AMAZINGLY (this needs to be in caps lock), the material had only been cut. Nothing else had been done. No design. No embroidery. No hemming. No detailing. No finesse. No trouser even. NOTHING HAD BEEN DONE! And here was this tailor, boasting to Viktor to wait on him for two hours, to finish up.

Bombastic side eye
Oh lord, Viktor was furious. The kind of furious where your brain cannot even process the reality of what’s going on. He didn't know if raising his voice would help. This was not his first Amaka-Disappoint-Me experience but this was the most painful one - so far.
Now, I'm sure you are asking What did he do?
Well, what actually could he do? He simply took the material and left in furious disappointment. If you are familiar with EKO market on any day, you'd know it is wisdom to try avoiding rush hour traffic. Even worse, you'd know to avoid it on days like Friday. This was the situation Viktor found himself. Now, he's in a bus whose price is hiked up. He has no Agbada for Saturday. And his boss found out he sneaked out of work early for this disappointment. Triple wahala!
Here's where it gets interesting. Here's where Viktor's problem-solving and innovative mind kicked in. He kept on asking himself "How could I have known? How could I have known that this particular tailor is prone to audacious disappointments?". Because it is one thing to disappoint. It is another to disappoint boldly/audaciously. The only work that had been done on it was the cutting of the material!!!
From that painful experience, a light bulb sparked.
An idea was birthed. That idea, today, is VOKKA Technologies.

VOKKA Technologies is designed to be your Delivery Platform for Handmade Products, covering Fashion and Footwears. We have built the delivery platform that solves the pains and friction of the Handmade market, covering Handmade Fashion and Footwears.
What is our Mission?
To scale Handmade brands into global businesses by enabling digital handmade commerce.
We focus on Brands over Tailors - those that actually want to build a global business/name, not those that simply sew for survival.
What s our Vision?
To become the one-stop operating system for handmade products, globally.
What features have we built that solves the pains of the market?
Digital Body Measurement system, where we save and digitize your body measurement so that you can sew with any tailor/designer of your choice. For each order place, we send your precise body measurement to the tailor/brand.
Brand Accept or Reject feature, where each order can be accepted or rejected by the brand within 6 hours. We understand tailors/brands do not like to reject orders. They view it as a loss of potential revenue but they fail to understand the other side; disappointing buyers is a loss of Trust. Trust trumps revenue overtime. By accepting an order, the brand is saying "We have the capacity and bandwidth to product this order in the given timeframe". Therefore, there is no space or excuse for disappointment.
Production status update, where buyers get status updates/notifications on each step taken to garment production. From cutting of the material, to sewing to embroidery, to hemming, etc. This helps reduce the anxiety of the awaiting buyer.
Lastly, VOKKA is designed as a Workshop-to-Doorstep experience, where you can sew a garment with any brand of choice from the comfort of your home or office,. VOKKA handles delivery to your destination.
Today, the 1st of May 2026, we officially launch the delivery platform for handmade products.
